PETALING JAYA: UEM Group Bhd’s Izani Ghani will be taking over as managing director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) effective tomorrow.
Izani, who is currently UEM Group’s managing director, was a non-independent, non-executive director of MAHB from 2011 to 2019.
Previously, he was also the chief financial officer of Khazanah Nasional Bhd. The MAHB managing director’s post has been vacant since Iskandar Mizal Mahmood’s tenure ended in October last year.
Meanwhile, MAHB acting CEO Rastam Shahrom is stepping down from the post to become RHB Bank’s chief financial officer (CFO), also effective from tomorrow, Bernama reported.
Iskandar was also group CEO at MAHB when his two-year contract ended last year.
Rastam was previously the MAHB group CFO and held the same position at UEM Sunrise Bhd.
These changes come ahead of a plan to privatise MAHB through a consortium led by sovereign wealth fund Khazanah, which will increase its stake in the airport operator to 40%, while EPF will hold a 30% share.
The deal will also see Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority taking up a 30% stake in MAHB under the consortium.
The plan has courted controversy as GIP will be acquired in the third quarter of this year by global investment firm BlackRock, which has stakes in US defence firms that allegedly manufacture weapons used by Israel. - FMT
