He said further action, including legal proceedings, would be in line with the amendments to Bersatu’s constitution following the move by six of its MPs to pledge support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The six include Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim, who won the Nenggiri seat in last year’s state election. The seat was declared vacant after Azizi ceased to be a Bersatu member for failing to affirm his loyalty to the party.
Wan Fayhsal said the penalty would help assure voters that the candidate fielded for the by-election would not follow in Azizi’s footsteps.
the Machang MP added. If he or she defects or supports another party, there will be severe legal consequences and fines,
However, he provided no further details, saying such penalties are an internal party matter.
he said.If our candidate wins, he or she will serve the full term and reside there (in Nenggiri),
Gua Musang PAS expressed hope last month that Bersatu would allow the Islamic party to contest the by-election, citing concern among voters that their elected candidate might switch sides again if a Bersatu candidate is fielded.
Gua Musang PAS chief Azman Ahmad said Azizi’s declaration of support for Anwar’s administration had shaken voter confidence.
However, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed that a Bersatu candidate would be fielded to face off against Barisan Nasional candidate Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani.
The Election Commission has set Aug 3 for nomination day and Aug 13 for early voting. - FMT
