PETALING JAYA: Police here have confirmed that a woman has lodged a report claiming that she was sexually harassed by a man she identified as a former MP.
The woman, who is in her 20s, claimed in a video posted online that she was harassed on Aug 6 at a popular mall in Kota Damansara.
She said she decided to lodge a police report as she feared for her safety and hoped that he would stop harassing her.
Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar said initial investigations showed the suspect to be a non-executive director of a statutory body.
Police began investigations after coming across a widely shared video clip in which the woman alleged she was sexually harassed twice by an acquaintance of hers earlier this month.
Following the incident, police investigated the case under Penal Code provisions on harassment and insulting the modesty of a person.
Shahrulnizam urged those with information of the incident to contact the Petaling Jaya police station. - FMT
