JOHOR BARU: The number of people evacuated from flood-affected areas in Johor rose to 148 from 50 families as at 8am Monday (Dec 29), up from 103 the night before.
State disaster management committee chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said a relief centre was opened this morning, bringing the total to seven centres operating in the Segamat district.
He said the relief centre at SJK (C) Tah Kang was opened at 8am, accommodating 34 people from 13 families.
"Some 40 people from 12 families are taking shelter at the Kampung Batu Badak Community Hall, 17 people from six families are at Kampung Tasek Multipurpose Hall and five people from one family are at Kampung Jabi Community Hall.
"In addition, 14 people from five families are being housed at the Kampung Paya Lebar Community Hall, 11 people from five families at the Pekan Air Panas Multipurpose Hall, and 27 people from eight families at the Segamat Kecil Orang Asli Village Multipurpose Hall," he said in a statement.
Asman Shah said Sungai Muar had exceeded the danger level at two points, Kampung Awat and Buloh Kasap.
Meanwhile, Johor Baru, Mersing, Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi and Kulai experienced rain this morning, while Muar and Batu Pahat had cloudy skies, with clear weather in Pontian and Tangkak. – Bernama
