KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has strengthened its position as one of the safest countries in the world, ranking 12th out of 163 nations in the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2026, up one spot from 13th place in 2025.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the achievement placed Malaysia among the safest countries in Asia alongside Singapore and Japan.
He said it reflected the continuous efforts of the Madani government in ensuring security, safety and stability remain national priorities.
"This recognition is also a result of the commitment of all security personnel, enforcement agencies and parties who have never compromised in maintaining national security and public peace," he said in a statement on Facebook yesterday.
Saifuddin said the Home Ministry would continue to strengthen efforts to enhance public safety, tighten border control, combat crime and preserve public order.
He said security was not merely an achievement but the foundation for public welfare, investor confidence and economic growth.
He added that efforts to maintain Malaysia as a safe and stable country would continue for the benefit of all Malaysians.
"Congratulations and appreciation to all members of the security forces, enforcement agencies and Malaysians who have played a role in maintaining the security we enjoy today," he said.
Earlier, the GPI ranked Singapore eighth globally, Japan 10th, and Malaysia 12th, placing all three among the safest nations in Asia. - NST
