In a statement posted on its social media accounts, MAHB said departing passengers might experience some delays in baggage processing.
In a separate statement, it said the baggage handling system had returned to normal at 5.30pm today.
MAHB, however, did not provide details on how long the problem had persisted or what caused the technical issue.
Several social media users arriving at Terminal 1 of KLIA claimed they had to wait at least two hours to collect their luggage.
The technical issue also prompted airlines such as Batik Air to issue travel advisories to passengers.
In an update on its Instagram account about three hours ago, Batik Air advised passengers that the disruption could result in longer-than-usual waiting times at check-in counters and baggage processing areas.
The airline advised passengers to complete online check-in before arriving at the airport and allow extra time for check-in and baggage drop-off.
Passengers were also advised to keep important travel documents, medication, valuables and electronic devices in their carry-on baggage. - NST
