Penang local authorities will cancel all compounds issued through the Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system for parking outside designated bays, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) said.
ADSThe decision follows the state government’s move to suspend the ANPR compound system amid backlash, as its implementation had caused unease and concern among residents, including former chief minister Lim Guan Eng.
Penang Island City Council “Moving forward, enforcement action will be carried out manually by local authority enforcement officers based on conditions on the ground, except in areas where parking or stopping is prohibited,” MBPP said on Facebook today.
Meanwhile, individuals who have already paid ANPR-issued compounds for parking outside designated bays can apply for refunds from MBPP or Seberang Perai City Council until Sept 30.
Those who made payments within 10 minutes of the compound being issued can also appeal to either council for cancellation and a refund if the compound was already paid.
Perak DAP chairperson Nga Kor Ming is confident a “Red Wave” will emerge in the state as a manifestation of public support for Pakatan Harapan, which he said prioritises unity, stability and good governance.
According to Sinar Harian, Nga said Perak’s multiracial population was a unique strength, allowing its people to stand together as one family and form the basis for constructive rather than divisive politics.
Perak DAP chairperson Nga Kor Ming “This is merely the beginning of a people's tsunami, a ‘Red Wave’, that I am confident will rise across the blessed land of Perak Darul Ridzuan,” he was quoted as saying.
Nga urged voters to assess the government based on its performance and achievements instead of allowing racial and religious sentiments to undermine national harmony.
The Negeri Sembilan government has decided not to increase assessment rates for residential properties for the next five years, Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim said.
In a Facebook post, Ismail said the decision was made after taking into account residents’ interests and the rising cost of living, with their welfare remaining a priority.
