Perak police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 39-year-old man was believed to have injured two officers from the Selama police headquarters’ narcotics crime investigation division on June 23 at Kampung Sungai Jernih, Ijok, before fleeing.
He said police tracked down the suspect after receiving information that he was hiding at a hut in Kampung Klian Gunung Ijok, Batu Kurau, at 8.20am yesterday, Bernama reported.
“Police approached the suspect to arrest him, but he immediately stood up, grabbed a parang and attempted to attack the officers,” he said at a press conference at the Selama police headquarters today.
“Police fired one shot at his leg in self-defence, injuring his right and left thighs.
“The suspect fell but continued to resist arrest, resulting in a struggle before police managed to seize the parang.”
He said the suspect was pronounced dead by medical personnel who arrived at the scene at 9.20am.
Alwi said the suspect, who worked odd jobs, had a record for 10 criminal and drug-related offences. - FMT
