A video of the incident, believed to have been filmed from an upper floor of a nearby building, shows several men on motorcycles moving between rows of parked vehicles.
Some of the riders are seen stopping beside the cars before the group speeds away through the crowded parking area.
Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Superintendent M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly said police received a report on the incident at 5pm yesterday.
"Initial investigations found that a group of men riding three motorcycles smashed the windows of several vehicles before fleeing.
"Five vehicles were reported damaged. No property was reported stolen," he said in a statement today.
Hussin said the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage.
He said police are examining video footage obtained from witnesses as part of efforts to identify and arrest the suspects.
