Husam - gave even his own party members a surprise! |
PAS leaders have distanced themselves from vice president Husam Musa’s alleged comment that PAS was ready to accept Zaid Ibrahim into their party if the disgraced leader resigned from PKR.
“That is Datuk Husam’s official stand, not PAS’,” PAS treasurer-general Hatta Ramli told Malaysia Chronicle.
Hatta explained PAS guidelines were that anyone could apply for membership, but whether it was granted depended on the central leadership.
Nonetheless, PAS members will not need to split hairs over the issue as Zaid is widely expected to form his own political party. He is believed to have already put in place his men in the newly set-up party.
PAS leaders also pointed to Zaid’s apparent indiscipline, citing the ruckus he had caused in PKR and Pakatan Rakyat by extension as factors that would weigh against his entry into the Islamic-based party.
“Whether we accept his membership also depends on the opinion of DAP and PKR especially since he is leaving PKR in such a noisy way. I guess if there are no objections from these two parties, PAS could consider accepting him but if he joins, members will expect him to toe the line and abide by party discipline. Can he do that?” PAS MP for Kota Raja Siti Mariah Mahmud told Malaysia Chronicle.
Bernama had reported Husam as saying that PAS had previously offered Zaid membership but he chose to join PKR. It is unclear if Husam had really said PAS would offer him a place now.
"Zaid is in a position to join any party...we did invite him to join PAS before but he declined, so it's up to him now to join which party," Husam was reported as saying.
