Yoursay: Umno seems mighty scared of Dr M's 'ripple'

YOURSAY | ‘Wherever Mahathir goes, he's treated like a film star.’
AntiRacial: “I am not saying that there will be no effect. There will be a slight impact but not what some people term as a Malay tsunami … that will not happen,” Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan said in a special interview with Bernama.
If there is no impact or only slight impact, why is he so bothered by it that he made this a main topic for discussion?
Cogito Ergo Sum: It won’t be a tsunami. Treated like a rogue by Umno/BN, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be like a rogue wave who will wash away all the old sand bars and barriers, and stem the tide of corruption, bigotry and divisive politics.
The old pirate ships will be tossed aside in the wake of this wave, which sometimes can reach up to 10 storeys in height. That’s when the rats will start jumping ship as tables are overturned.
Anonymous #19098644: Wherever Mahathir goes, he's treated like a film star, with people rushing to shake his hands, take selfies, and everybody stands up voluntarily to show their respect for him in spite of him holding no official positions.
Only the ‘raja lawaks’ (comedy kings), ‘kaki bodek’ (apple polishers) and Umno ‘barua’ (lackeys) still refuse to acknowledge reality, just like when the world is condemning 1MDB, our cabinet ministers still pretend that is it fake news.
Hplooi: To a certain extent, Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir is right. The right-wing faction (previously "ultras" who became "mainstream" post-1969) set about implementing their agenda with four key thrusts.
1. Fine tune the electoral system to ensure dominance. The first targets were urban centres that were prime anti-Umno centres. Kuala Lumpur was carved out of Selangor, thereby neutering the city that played a key role in the 1969 election. Since then, the Election Commission (EC) has been brought completely under control.
There were attempts at urban re-engineering, which included creating Malay urban areas in Kuala Lumpur (from the 70s to the 80s).
2. Asserting total dominance on the executive led to Malay "nationalism". The executive, which used to be multiracial, became monoracial.
3. Make education more favourable to the masses. This included top down (Mara, scholarships, easier university entry, etc) and bottom up (destroy the dominant liberal English stream and replace it with Malay stream).
4. State intervention in the economy - for example, former premier Abdul Razak's request to tycoon Robert Kuok to acquire shares in Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC). Transportation and banking were the first wave.
But the framework underpinning the above said was therefore set:
1. The warlord system.
2. Patronage and rent-seeking, for example, former finance minister Daim Zainuddin (a precocious student by one account) went on to become one of the biggest beneficiaries of the rent-seeking economy.
3. Exclusivity and race identification became a badge of political leverage. When Mahathir took over as prime minister, the system had already been set and he maxed out the system to his advantage.
But Dr M was also a 'visionary', in that:
1. He sought to liberalise the system (which was seen by the non-Muslims to be a breath of fresh air, after the oppressive 70s and 80s.
2. He tackled red tape and bureaucratic corruption. Although the Malaysian bureaucracy was corrupt, this was the norm in most of Asia, and Malaysia was then relatively less so. Some of the most 'creatively corrupt' civil servants I have dealt with in the 1980s were Chinese (which illustrates the fact that it is the system, not the race).
3. He had a vision for industrialisation using the Japanese Zaibatsu model.
The above framework eventually became contradictions.
The failures of Dr M can be listed as:
1. Despite his vision, he was a poor judge of character. People he picked were incompetent or corrupt. And this cuts across race. Remember Abdullah Ang?
2. The contradictions within the system (warlordism, Malay nationalism becoming more extreme, etc) became too big for his vision. In time, Umno politicians with any pretensions to importance deemed it their birth right to the gravy train (Cowgate, or the National Feedlot Corporation scandal, is just the tip of the iceberg).
3. The vision of industrialisation by appointing captains of industry (the Japan Zaibatsu model) was a failure. While Japan's captains performed their national task with competence and patriotic fervour, the same could not be said of our 'Malaysian captains'.
4. The warlord and patronage system engendered a system where national resources were commandeered at the behest of Umno. By Daim's time, even Umno interests had become blurred with personal interest.
5. Brainwashing and the empowering the religious right was the direct result of race politics.
Existential Turd: Scandals such as 1MDB today can be traced all the way to Malay protectionism. From there, came Malay privileges and supremacy. Then came Umno privileges and supremacy.
Then when the pie was not big enough to sustain so many cronies, the circle of privileges shrank further to a select few in Umno.
Bersatu splintered from Umno because its members were not satisfied with the way the pie was being distributed. However, they did not oppose Umno based on principle. It was all about the "dedak".

Shovelnose: Is Mukhriz feeling remorseful after the deceit had been revealed? It's not too late to turn our eyes back to God and live righteously. Sack the thieves, the greedy and evil ones.
Turn over a new leaf and return the land to the people. -Mkini

Zakir Naik ready to challenge extradition bid, says lawyer

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian lawyer for Zakir Naik has questioned a news report that Indian authorities have submitted documents to extradite the controversial preacher, dismissing it as part of the media’s “Islamophobic” campaign.
“If there is a proper charge sheet filed against Dr Zakir Naik, we would want to have a copy of it. It is only the media in India which is speaking without proof against him,” Shaharudin Ali who represents Naik told FMT.
Yesterday, the Times of India reported that India’s foreign affairs ministry had submitted relevant documents, completing a legal process to demand Naik’s extradition from Malaysia, where he has been granted permanent residence status.
The report said a court in Kuala Lumpur could hear India’s request.
Shaharudin said his client would challenge any charge sheet against him in the event Malaysia decided to deport him, adding that Naik has not been convicted in India or anywhere.
“The media is Islamophobic against him because of his popularity,” he said, and referred to Naik’s 17.5 million followers on Facebook.
Authorities in India have been seeking Naik’s return to question him on charges of money laundering and spreading extremism.
Naik’s missionary outfit Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) and his satellite television channel PeaceTV are banned in India and Bangladesh.
Last November, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Putrajaya was prepared to deport Naik if there was a request from New Delhi.
Naik fled India on July 1, 2016, amid reports that he had inspired a group of youths who carried out a terror attack in Bangladesh.
The preacher currently lives in the administrative capital Putrajaya. -FMT

Redelineation to remain in power an old BN trick, says Chandra Muzaffar

PETALING JAYA: Renowned social critic Chandra Muzaffar says the latest redelineation of electoral boundaries passed by the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday is not surprising, adding that such an exercise has been done many times in the past to favour Barisan Nasional (BN).
“Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad did the same thing in 2003, he went on the basis of Barisan Nasional’s performance in 1999 after they lost some Malay support after Anwar Ibrahim’s sacking as deputy prime minister,” said Chandra, who now heads the 1Malaysia Foundation.
He said in the past, electoral boundaries were redrawn to dilute Malay constituencies, to counter anti-government sentiments among Malay voters in the wake of the reformasi movement sparked by Anwar’s dismissal.
“He (Mahathir) was doing the reverse of what’s happening now, but also for the same purpose, power.”
On Wednesday, the Dewan Rakyat passed a motion on the redelineation of electoral boundaries, amid strong protests from opposition MPs who accuse the Election Commission (EC) of working in cohorts with BN to ensure the coalition’s victory at the next polls.
Mahathir, who now chairs opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan, has also slammed the redelineation report, saying it was unfair.
Yesterday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the redelineation would create more racial enclaves to divide and turn Malaysians against each other.
Chandra agreed that the latest redelineation, which drew strong protests from the opposition, was to ensure BN’s grip on power.
But he said although the new electoral map would see greater concentrations of certain communities in some seats, he did not think race was the main motivation.
“I don’t believe that the ethnic factor is the main consideration, rather I believe it is to ensure that the ruling coalition can perpetuate its power. I think this is the real consideration,” he told FMT.
“Some constituencies may have had 55% of voters of one race, and 45% of another race. Now, this ratio may be 75% from one community and 25% of another community.”
Chandra however warned that the redelineation could lead to candidates resorting to ethnic sentiments in seats dominated by certain races.
He said the latest episode showed the importance of the EC to be an independent body which is detached from those in power.
“The Election Commission should have and must adhere to the guiding principles on constituency redelineation in the Federal Constitution.
“The guiding principles in the constitution are clear, they are related to things like geography, topography, and demographics, but the principles do not encourage ethnic voting. When it speaks to the interests of a community, it isn’t a reference to any ethnic community.”
He said those behind the drafting of the constitution had not emphasised ethnicity so that Malaysians would not identify themselves based on race. -FMT

PPBM member questions report to RoS without AGMs held

PETALING JAYA: A PPBM member in Selangor claims that the party’s grassroots are alarmed at reports that the leadership has submitted all documents required by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) although many divisions and branches have yet to hold annual general meetings (AGMs).
Gombak PPBM division’s Mohd Azimin Muhamad said secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh should clarify on the status of the meetings and clear the air over “a fact that was clearly manipulated.”
“What meetings? Not just in Selangor, but we have also contacted our friends in Penang. They had never sat for any meeting either at the branch or divisional levels.
“So what kind of a report concerning the matter was sent to the RoS?” he was quoted as saying by New Straits Times at a press conference today.
“I believe that this is not only just a form of fraud against the RoS but a betrayal to all party members nationwide,” he said.
RoS had sent a notice to PPBM on Feb 28 to provide a report on minutes of meetings of its divisions and branches, as well as the party’s financial report, within 30 days or face the risk of de-registration.
On March 29, PPBM executive secretary Captain (Rtd) Muhammad Suhaimi Yahya said in a video clip released by the party that they had fulfilled what was required by RoS.
He said the party had submitted the materials in full on March 27 and 29.
Earlier, PPBM media officer Mohd Ikhmal Abu Bakar was reported by The Star as saying that the party had filed all the documents requested on March 29.
“Confirmed. Everything has been done,” he was quoted as saying.
On March 16, PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin had said the party would not be able to furnish the documents before the deadline given.
He said RoS had only approved the setting up of the divisions last July, adding that no organisation could hold an AGM in less than a year of its establishment.
Azimin said RoS should take action if the report on the meetings was found to be fraudulent.
He said he would not hesitate to lodge police reports nationwide over the issue, which he claimed would create political disorder and strained ties between PPBM members and their allies in Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“And if something was to happen to PPBM following RoS’ actions, are we going to be beggars before other parties in Pakatan Harapan, and seek shelter from them?” he said. -FMT

My RM100,000 Challenge To Cilisos.My

Cilisos.my can name the lawyer to act as our trustee for this bet and once it places its RM100,000 bet with that lawyer I will also do the same and the day after Polling Day the lawyer can pay that RM200,000 to the winner.

NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
Pro-Opposition website cilisos.my has given seven reasons why Pakatan Harapan is going to win the upcoming general election expected some time in May 2018 or thereabouts (7 CONVINCING REASONS WHY PAKATAN WILL CONFIRM WIN GE14).
Although cilisos.my may feel its seven reasons are convincing enough, I am not convinced. And I have my own set of seven reasons why Pakatan Harapan is NOT going to win the upcoming general election.
1. You cannot offer the disease as the cure or the problem as the solution, which is what Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is — the disease or the problem.
2. Everyone knows, even those in Pakatan Harapan, that Mahathir is not motivated by his desire to save Malaysia, as he claims, but by his lust for power and desperation to install his son as Prime Minister so that he can perpetuate a political dynasty.
3. We do not know what documents PPBM submitted to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on Friday, 30th March 2018, but unless it was the Minutes of the branch and division meetings, then PPBM is dead meat and Mahathir will no longer have a party to lead.
4. Mahathir has yet to get PKR, DAP and/or PAN to agree to ‘absorb’ all the PPBM candidates and to allow them to contest the general election under a PKR, DAP and/or PAN flag.
5. Once Barisan Nasional’s election manifesto is revealed it is going to turn Pakatan Harapan’s election manifesto into a joke.
6. The voters know that Pakatan Harapan’s promise of abolishing the GST, highway toll charges, and much more, cannot be met because that is just like promising that once Pakatan Harapan comes to power Malaysians will be able to walk on water.
7. Pakatan Harapan’s only election weapon is to play up the 1MBD and GST issues and nothing more than that and they hope that by playing up these issues they can make the voters hate Barisan Nasional. Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, instead, is focusing on how to put more money into the pockets of Malaysians.
So those are my seven reasons why Barisan Nasional will win GE14 versus cilisos.my’s seven reasons why Pakatan Harapan will win GE14. And I am placing a bet that I am right while cilisos.my is wrong. And I challenge cilisos.my to put its money where its mouth is and take that bet.
Cilisos.my can name the lawyer to act as our trustee for this bet and once it places its RM100,000 bet with that lawyer I will also do the same and the day after Polling Day the lawyer can pay that RM200,000 to the winner.
I also invite anyone who wants to make easy money to join me in that bet and walk away with 100% profit in just five or six weeks or so.

Zahid: Rising prices of goods not due to GST

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today praised the rigorous action taken by the Customs Department in implementing the GST system.
He said that people should not blame the department for acting firmly on the matter, because the implementation of the GST is to strengthen the country's economy.
"The GST problem has not been settled yet, some say that GST has caused the cost of living to go up, I want to ask, in which country are prices of goods coming down, which means, the prices of goods are going up not because of the GST.
“GST actually improves on the SST (sales and service tax) which was implemented before this," he said.
"Those who are angry at GST, are those who want to run away from taxes," he said when speaking at the Customs Department's Motivation and Community Service programme at Tamil National Type Schools in Bagan Datuk today.
Also present were Rungkup state assemblyperson Shahrul Zaman Yahya and Customs director-general T Subromaniam.
Zahid, who is also the home minister, said GST was the most efficient tax system, which had also been implemented in other countries.
"The tax rate (GST) on the people (in Malaysia) is only six percent, compared to other countries, where tax rates reach up to 22.5 percent," he said, adding that Customs worked as a team to ensure GST collection could be implemented well.
Meanwhile, Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk MP, said 16 SJKTs in the constituency were involved in the motivational camp organised by the Customs Department.
"Education is a priority. I do not consider whether it is a Malay, Chinese or Indian student when providing assistance, because I want Bagan Datuk to be number one in education," he said.

Multibillion dollar 1MDB heist: The DOJ lawsuit revisited

The seizure of the Equanimity luxury yacht in Bali, Indonesia in late February once again brought the civil forfeiture suits by the US Department of Justice into the spotlight.
The DOJ had filed a series of the forfeiture suits in 2016 and 2017, seeking to seize assets worth nearly US$1.7 billion allegedly acquired using money siphoned from the Malaysian fund 1MDB.
The scandal, however, involves a convoluted web of transactions.
Malaysiakini has broken down the complexities of the DOJ suits in a special microsite.

LDP man mocks PH’s pledge to continue BR1M cash aid

Sabah assistant minister Pang Nyuk Ming says the opposition is now forced to do an about-turn.
Sabah assistant tourism, culture and environment minister Pang Nyuk Ming.
KOTA KINABALU: A Sabah assistant minister has ridiculed the opposition for its change of mind on the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) cash handout programme as seen in Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) manifesto for the next general election.
Sabah’s assistant tourism, culture and environment minister Pang Nyuk Ming said in the past, opposition politicians likened BR1M to corruption, but said they now found it good enough to be included in their election manifesto.
“I think it is because they also realised, after several years, the benefits are there for the people,” he said.
“The opposition may not have admitted it, but the fact that they pledged to keep BR1M is proof that it is a good programme,” Pang said at a ceremony to give out BR1M vouchers to 1,500 recipients in Tawau today.
Pang, BN’s Merotai state assemblyman from the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), said the opposition has also promised to continue other programmes by the BN government.
PH’s manifesto launched earlier this month includes maintaining the BR1M cash aid for those in the B40 bracket (bottom 40% in household income).
“The opposition members can say what they want. They can call BR1M an attempt to fish for votes, that it is a bad programme.
“All I ask is for the people to judge the government by its achievements and how it has helped maintain peace and harmony among the multi-racial and multi-religious Malaysian society,” said Pang.
Pang said the federal government under Najib Razak has given attention to Sabah.
“Because of this, I believe Sabah will continue to be the BN’s stronghold in the coming election,” he said. -FMT

Nur Jazlan to check if Anwar's 'statements' are real

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed plans to look into the authenticity of jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim’s statements from behind bars.
This is after Anwar released a statement today vowing that were it to capture Putrajaya, Pakatan Harapan will set up a "truly independent" Election Commission and repeal the anti-fake news law if it is enacted.
"I am curious. Did this statement really come from Anwar? He is prohibited by prison rules to communicate with the world outside without permission from Prisons (Department) director-general," Nur Jazlan said on Twitter.
He added that he will check with Prisons Department director-general Supri Hashim to see if statements had indeed been issued by jailed leader.
I am curious. Did this statement really come from @anwaribrahim:? He is prohibited by Prison rules to communicate with the world outside without permission from Prisons DG. Will check with DG. @pakatanharapan_ : Pakatan will repeal ‘fake news’ law http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/anwar-pakatan-will-repeal-fake-news-law#sthash.LZ1cIH9w.uxfs
Statements in Anwar’s name are occasionally sent out to the media by Harapan’s media team.
In August last year, Supri had denied that Anwar issued a statement regarding a fracas during the Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum in Shah Alam.
He explained that Anwar, who is serving a five-year prison sentence, had been brought to the court complex in Kuala Lumpur to attend a civil proceeding on the day the statement was released.
“When in court, Anwar was under constant surveillance by prison officers and personnel. Those not related to the court proceedings were not allowed to meet him, including the media," he had said.

Redelineation doesn’t take into account 1MDB, GST, says don

The redelineation exercise could give BN an advantage in the next general election, but it does not take into account current scandals against the ruling government, Universiti Selangor vice-chancellor Mohammad Redzuan Othman said today.
"This redelineation was done based on voting patterns in 2013, but it doesn’t mean that voting patterns of 2018 and 2013 are the same.
"Because in 2013, there was no 1MDB, and no GST, so this pattern may not be the same in the upcoming general election," Redzuan said at a seminar on the maqasid(objectives) of syariah in Petaling Jaya.
He noted, however, that in the past, redelineation exercises would result in major BN victories.
"If we observe since Merdeka, BN’s highest share of the popular vote is 65 percent.
"But they keep winning 80 to 90 percent of the seats, meaning that the popular vote is not reflected in the seats, and this is helped by the redelineation, the facts show this.”
The redelineation report was passed in Parliament on Wednesday, and was gazetted the next day.
Critics claim that the redrawing of electoral boundaries would give BN an unfair advantage in the polls, while polarising voters along racial lines.
Election Commission chairperson Mohd Hashim Abdullah had in an interview with the New Straits Times on Thursday said that the redelineation proposal drew constituency boundaries along racial lines, in the interest of keeping ethnic groups together. -Mkini

Aku Akan Pergi Tak Lama Lagi... (VIDEO)

MAHATHIR: HUDUD ISLAM BERBEZA DENGAN HUDUD

1. Bukan sahaja saya terlalu tua untuk jadi Perdana Menteri, sekarang saya diberitahu saya tidak layak kerana pemikiran Islam saya tidak betul.
3. Tetapi Al-Quran menyebut berkali-kali akan mustahaknya mengguna akal fikiran.
Sila rujuk:
Surah Al-Baqarah Ayat 164, 179
Surah Al Imran Ayat 7, 65, 190
Surah Al Maidah Ayat 100,103
Surah Hud Ayat 51
Surah Yusuf Ayat 111
Surah Ar-Rad Ayat 3, 4,19
Surah Taha Ayat 54
Surah Az-Zumar Ayat 9
Surah Al-Hasyr Ayat 2
Sila rujuk
Surah Al Maidah Ayat 8, 42
Surah Al-Araf Ayat 29
Surah Yunus Ayat 54
Surah Yusuf Ayat 26, 27
Surah An-Nahl Ayat 90
Surah Sad Ayat 22, 26
Surah Az-Zumar Ayat 29,75
Surah Al-Ghafir Ayat 20,78
Surah Asy-Syura Ayat 40
Surah Ar-Rahman Ayat 7, 8
Surat Al-Hadid Ayat 25
Surah Al-Mumtahanah Ayat 8
Surah At-Tin Ayat 8
a. melantik seorang Perdana Menteri;
b. tidak memperkenankan permintaan bagi pembubaran parlimen;
