Stay away from Harapan's poisoned honey, Najib warns civil servants

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today warned civil servants against believing Pakatan Harapan’s “empty promises”.

He said the opposition coalition was making unrealistic and “populist” pledges in order to gain power.

Speaking at a handing over ceremony of new houses to civil servants, he contrasted the BN government’s track record in public housing to Harapan’s manifesto pledges.

“We always put the need of the rakyat first but this does not mean we can enact populist and irresponsible policies that will badly affect the country’s economy and future?

“There have been reactions to the opposition’s manifesto that questioned their ability to deliver on their promises to the people.

“Don’t be influenced by their empty promises, they are like madu yang beracun (poisoned honey).

“The promises sound good but they will bring calamity,” Najib said at the event held at the newly-completed a 1Malaysia Civil Servants Affordable Housing Scheme (PPA1M) project at Metropolitan Kepong today.

He raised Harapan’s manifesto pledge to abolish the goods and services tax (GST) within 100 days of forming the government.

He said such a move would result in a shortfall of RM20 billion in government earnings, which would translate to the cancellation of government programmes.

“As the opposition, they only have one objective and one goal. They have high hopes to form the government and to take power.

“When that becomes your goal, the methods you take are not important.
The ends justify the means,” Najib said.

Built by developers JL99, the PPA1M Metropolitan Kepong's launch was done with much fanfare.

Aside from large billboards bearing BN's logo and Najib's portrait, homeowners and guests were treated to a food bazaar, including free "Musang King" durians.

The two blocks of apartments comprising 1,230 units were built and sold at subsidised prices ranging between RM90,000 and RM300,000.

Among the facilities provided to the apartment buyers are a mini-mart, a laundrette, a cafeteria, a multipurpose hall, a kindergarten, a children’s playground and various sports courts. -Mkini
