Karambunai Eco Resort to create over 15,000 jobs in Sabah?
SABAH - The Karambunai Econature Integrated Resort is expected to create 15,000-20,000 jobs in Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman Wednesday.
He said the project, one of the 133 entry point projects announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the 2011 National Budget, is aimed at giving the Sabah people the opportunity of being part of it with jobs for the locals and hence improved economy for them.
"I have asked the developer to give priority to the Sabah locals when recruiting people for this project," he told reporters after chairing the state cabinet meeting here.
Musa also said the developer, Karambunai Corp Bhd, gave a briefing on the project to cabinet ministers at the meeting.
The resort is to be developed at a cost of RM6.5 billion and will cover 1,349 hectares of land in Karambunai near here over a 10-year period.
Musa said the project was apt for Sabah which is aiming to become a key ecotourism state in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, Musa announced the appointment of new Batu Sapi Member of Parliament Datin Linda Tsen Thau Lin as Chairman of Sabah Credit Corporation, replacing Datuk Teo Chee Kang who was made Chairman of the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Sabah effective January 1.
