The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) over allegations of irregularities in its awarding of a tender involving the revamp of its multi-million ringgit ticketing system.
It is learnt MACC officers visited the KTMB office twice last week and took confidential files and documents pertaining to the awarding of the tender to a company, which was said to be "inexperienced and under-qualified" to undertake such a project.
The tender, to revamp the entire ticketing system in all 56 KTM Komuter stations in and around the Klang Valley and in Negri Sembilan, is said to be worth about RM100mil.
The company that won the right to undertake the project was said to have bid RM85mil, even though there were two other more experienced companies who had bids lower than the winning company.
The two companies that failed to win the tender were said to have proven track records and had been involved with KTMB for quite some time.
Sources said the MACC had yet to record any statements of KTMB officials or from the company that was awarded the contract in December.
They said MACC officers were currently scrutinising the files and documents as well as studying the system used to call and approve tenders. -Star
