PM Najib to meet Kg Baru residents

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to make several important announcements to Kampung Baru residents on the development of the urban Malay village at a gathering on February 5.

Federal Territories Minister and Urban Well-being Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said he was informed about it by Najib at a meeting yesterday.

“Kampung Baru’s development is close to his (Najib’s) heart and the visit to Masjid Jamek and other places in Kampung Baru will offer him the opportunity to make several announcements,” Raja Nong Chik told reporters after launching the Kampung Baru’s 111th anniversary celebration and the Kampung Baru Exhibition here yesterday.

Commenting on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s regret for not being able to develop Kampung Baru during his tenure as prime minister, Raja Nong Chik said continuous efforts would be made to make it a success.

However, the success also rested on the willingness of the residents and land owners to cooperate with the government, added Raja Nong Chik. — Bernama
