Salleh Keruak is Sabah Speaker

Speculations over who will be the next Sabah State Legislative Assembly Speaker ended when the candidate was named.

KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah chief minister, Salleh Said Keruak, has been appointed the new State Legislative Assembly Speaker, taking over from Juhar Mahiruddin who was appointed Yang Dipertua Negeri on Jan 1.

Salleh, who is Sabah Umno liaison committee deputy chairman, is the eighth speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly.

His appointment was announced by Chief Minsiter Musa Aman today.

Salleh, who is the science adviser to the Musa’s administration, will assume his post on Jan 17.

Born on July 7, 1957 in Kota Belud, Salleh holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Simon Fraser University in Canada.

He began his political career in 1985 when he was made political secretary to the deputy chief minister.

Salleh was Sabah chief minister between December 1994 and March 1996 when the state practised the system of rotation for the post of chief minister.

Salleh is also the president of the United Sabah Bajau Organisation. - FMT
