Anwar: Probe other cases before calling for sex video RCI

April 07, 2011

SHAH ALAM, April 7 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government should first complete investigations of other high-profile cases before pushing for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into a sex video which allegedly featured him.

The PKR de facto leader said that many important deaths remained unsolved such as the murder of Mongolian model Altantuya Shariibuu and the recent death of Selangor Customs assistant director Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed.

“Let them call for an RCI but before they do, first have an RCI on Altantuya, Port Dickson, (Teoh) Beng Hock and the Customs (officer) case,” Anwar (picture) told reporters today.

Citing the case of Altantuya, Anwar charged that there were many “missing links” to the Mongolian woman’s death which have not been investigated by the authorities.

News broke yesterday that a Customs officer was found dead on the first floor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Jalan Cochrane after falling from the third floor.

The MACC has suspended two officers for leaving Ahmad Sarbani unattended before he fell to his death from the MACC office here yesterday.

“Call for an RCI (on the sex video) that’s fine, but first settle these cases,” reiterated Anwar today.

A mysterious “Datuk T” had screened a video purportedly showing Opposition Leader Anwar having sex two weeks ago.

Former Malacca Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim then claimed responsibility for the video, saying they screened the video to show “a man who wants to be prime minister is not qualified.”

A 107-second snippet surfaced on the Internet on Sunday, just two days after police said the video was not doctored.

It made public part of the video that was only screened to select individuals and reporters prior to this but the clip has since been taken down from YouTube for violating the video site’s policy on nudity and sexual content.

PKR has claimed that the clip proved the man in the video was not their de facto leader and repeated its demand that the trio be arrested for pornography.

Anwar has denied he is the man in the video and accused Umno of a politically-motivated “scurrilous attack” on him.

The involvement of former Umno Youth chief Abdul Rahim has lent credence to the claim as Umno sought to distance itself from the video. - Malaysian Insider
