Don’t let Pakatan win in Miri, Taib tells voters

Voters should ignore the propaganda of the opposition throughout the campaign that only intended to poison the people's mind.

MIRI: Chief Minister Taib Mahmud today urged the people of Miri to think of the future of the city and not to listen to the “words of poison” of the opposition.

He said the voters should ignore the propaganda of the opposition throughout the campaign that only intended to poison the people’s mind.

“When you go to the polls, don’t listen to the words of poison. I feel a lot of poisons in the air with the coming of outside (opposition) parties. Let us keep Miri clean,” he said when launching Imperial Palace Hotel, a hotel owned by a local property developer, Boulevard Group of Companies, here.

He said they should vote for Barisan Nasional’s incumbent candidates contesting in Miri as they had done a great job in bringing development to Miri.

“I must commend the dedication of this (local Barisan Nasional) team. Nobody else have done better than this group of leaders,” he said.

Miri is not left out

Taib, who is also Sarawak BN chief, was referring to the Miri “Happening team” comprising Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president, Dr George Chan, who is also the incumbent for the Piasau constituency, Lee Kim Shin (Senadin) and Andy Chia (Pujut).

He said that Miri residents should not feel that they were being left out from the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) development programme as they would still hold important roles in its development, which spanned 320km along the coast from Tanjung Manis in Mukah Division to Similajau in Bintulu Division.

While more industrial projects would emerge in Bintulu, the northern part of the Score area, and the development of a halal hub in its southern part, he said Miri, as a resort city, could play a role in providing hospitality and recreational services.

“Weekend for the people (working at Score) is (a time for) leisure, peace and recreation, and where else is the nearest to get it if not Miri,” he said.
