Ismail Omar is rushed to the hospital after complaining of feeling dizzy during a morning assembly at Bukit Aman.
KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar was today hospitalised after feeling faint due to exhausation during the monthly assembly at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
Federal police management director Robiah Abdul Ghani said contrary to earlier reports, the police chief did not collapse during the morning assembly.
She added that Ismail, 58, was rushed to the Pantai Hospital in Bangsar here around 10.30am.
It is learned that the IGP was being warded on the 7th floor, which houses VIP patients, and the entrance to the ward was under tight security.
“He said he felt like he was about to faint and we rushed him to the hospital in his car,” Robiah told reporters when met at the hospital.
She said the doctors had conducted several medical tests and believe that the police chief was suffering from fatigue.
“They have advised him to rest and have warded him at the hospital for observation for a day or two,” she added, stressing that Ismail’s condition was not serious.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief SAC II Amar Singh, who visited Ismail in the hospital, told reporters that the IGP looked fine.
“He is in stable condition and needs to rest, he looks okay and can take his own lunch,” he said.
Another senior police officer who visited Ismail said the police chief had worked too hard since returning from overseas recently.
“Doctors say let him sleep. So we just leave him alone for now,” added the officer, who declined to be named.
Ismail’s wife Suriati Md Sobri was also present at the hospital. - FMT
