Cheap Shop Than Lowering Prices

A long line of shoppers waiting to check out their purchases on the second day of Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia’s opening. — NST pictures by Nik Hariff Hassan
There seems to be no short of labeling everything in Bolehland with a 1 in front. This numeric 1 in front of almost everything seems to turn BolehLand into a huge monotonous 1landscape.

There are leaders who leave their legacy granting independence, or setting up large scale rubber plantation and palm oil schemes or unity or supposedly first world infrastructure, a car that isn't as hardy as the seed's name it took, the still world's twin towers and who can forget the toll, toll here and toll toll there. The present one wants to leave a legacy, a numeric one the 1 that is attached spread all over the landscape of BolehLand so that anyone seeing the 1 in front will know that is the legacy left following his 1Malaysia concept.

The latest is the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia which is odd as the one is left behind rather than being in the front as the norm to indicate I am the first 1 to have thought of this idea, a sort of 'my 1'. But the English translation reads 1Malaysia People's Stall/Shop?

This 1Malaysia shop is essentially a kind of mini cheaper version of the more expensive 7-Es shops. And KR1M operates, from 7am-11pm with a difference, that it is supposed to cater to the lower income we are told and selling cheaper with the price tag about 30-40% cheaper. The goods are sourced in bulk from Mydin, the hypermarket chain that sells many stuff at a lower price. But we know no one hypermarket can claim all their goods are lower than their rival!

The noble aim according to the man himself is designed to help bring down the prices of goods and ease the burden of the common man. And this is a great novel idea which the Pakatan fellos are rather slow or useless in doing anything to help those affected by the rising inflation.

The burden of the common man these days is inflation, rising prices courtesy of the management or mismanagement of 1Malaysia's government. So rather than managing the nation well so that inflation wont' burden the people, the best alternative is to let inflation rise and set up this 1Malaysia shops to counter the inflation brought about by the mismanagement of the country, huh? And in the process you tell the people see, I care for you as I am the one who thought of this idea and set up cheaper price stalls for you! But how about managing the Budget, economy and spending that would gain more support and earn more votes, eh?

The concept is good too as it gives work to the many unemployed and let's hope those who set up shops are from the pool of unemployed and not some ahmad, ah kow, muniandy or mydindin successful business man franchising this and in the end will get a cut and gets richer! And we hope such franchise won't be controlled by those with rosey names and one that has a sound that makes you want to vomit hearing that name!

Will this cheaper version of the 7es and mom & pop shops cause the demise of the 7es and mon & pop shops, or even the hypermarkets? Considering the rather ambitious capitalist way of selling where it is limitless for those who can afford, would we see those who have money and don't be surprised the upper and filthy rich class will sapu all the sardines, tunas and what not from the shelves leaving the common folks to be left with stuff that they don't need at all, like the keropoks and junk! And if they are selling groceries by what we understand, will it have a wet market section and put the pasar malams out of business too, huh?

It is not a myth or speculation that those who buy on the cheap are normally those who can afford to shop at Weld than patronise the Giants. Simply because it's human nature and very much BolehLand's habit of excessive buying when the price is low seen by the sales phenomena.

So who is going to control the rich fellos from buying up the stuff a these common folks 1Malaysia shops and deprive the common and poorer folks from getting things on the cheap?

The odd thing about this KR1M is they get their supply from a big wholesaler who runs a huge hypermarket joint! Why can't this superstore sell the items the same price as the KR1M shop?

Kudos to 1Malaysia then for setting up these shops. We hope that it's sustainable? It would be good if the cost or procedure to set up such a shop can be made known to other enterprising unemployed people like our graduates. Or one needs to be some political party member to be given the licence to operate the shop? Who provides the funding and what is the expected turnaround period?

There is little transparency in many of these 1Malaysia ideas. The public does not know the costs involve in setting up the 1Malaysia Clinic and many other 1whatever including this latest. Is the government funding it, where is the money coming from and is there any cut for the financier? A welfare state is not cheap even if these days everyone seems to want to be acknowledged as setting up a more welfare state than the other person or party!

There are many initiatives mostly those who solicit for funds from GLCs and private sector are plonking a '1' in front of their scheme, programme, initiative and what not to give it legitimacy. They think by putting a '1', it's some magical number that will cause the CEOs receiving their requests to shiver and sign millions of ringgit of goodwill or sponsorship money to these opportunist because the 1 in front means it has the blessings of the man or the madam for that matter!

So while some 1Malaysia programmes are sucking money from corporations for many dubious sh1oksend1r1 programmes as well as make quick money scams, there are some that we hope, even if they are noble - won't suck the Treasury dry? But then if we are told there isn't much in the kitty, where did the funding come from for this latest KR1M scheme, huh? So some transparency would help or does 1Malaysia think since it's a fantastic good idea for the common people, you don't need to be accountable or transparent. You only preach that to international leaders at international dialogues, huh?

KR1M will have its own type of customers and we hope it's the common folks and not those rich fellos. But then since it's open game in this no restriction policy, noone should feel bad if they cart off a trolley load of tuna or rice right?

So what's the next 1concept? How about a 1Teh Tarik or 1Mamak shop since the price is becoming rather ridiculous!!! If that's too difficult perhaps 1Malaysia can reduce prices they can do so if they want, like cars, public transport, tolls, what about electricity and also income tax too so that we can afford such things without overpaying simply. That way you won't need to set up 1this and that to counteract what you created because you didn't want to do the obvious, huh?

We still can have such 1cheap shops and cheaper prices for many other things too right? Is KR1M the antidote for the government's mismanagement that has inflation on the rise and bringing hardship to the common folks as well as the middle income group too, huh?

- YAHMEH!!!
