Foreign maid dies, believed to have been abused

Police say that the death occurred under suspicious circumstances.

PETALING JAYA: A 26-year-old foreign maid who is believed to have been physically abused by her employer died at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre yesterday.

The victim from a neighbouring country, had scratch marks on her back when she was brought to the hospital about 7.50am by a married couple in their 50′s.

Selangor CID chief SAC Mohd Adnan Abdullah said police investigated the case after receiving the hospital report that the death occurred under suspicious circumstances.

“The post-mortem yesterday showed that the deceased who had been employed since December 2008 also had injuries on the forehead and arms. There were also old wounds on her body,” he told reporters.

Mohd Adnan said police detained the couple when they came to the Sea Park police station about 3pm to give their statements.

He said they would be remanded until June 11 to facilitate the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
