Ibrahim Ali: ‘Stupid’ Soi Lek jealous

KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali has hit out at Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, calling the MCA president a “stupid, frustrated politician” with “low morals” for describing the Malay rights leader as a “nuisance”.

Ibrahim said there was no reason to condemn him for getting press coverage — which Dr Chua suggested was the fault of online media — and asked if the veteran MCA leader was merely envious of his high public profile.

“If any media give me publicity, so what. Why is he jealous?” he told The Malaysian Insider via text message today.

Ibrahim (picture) pointed out that Dr Chua’s comments reeked of “double standards” as the MCA president has received more media coverage than his predecessors despite the fact that he was “not even an MP”.

“By right, he should not have any place in the media. But I don’t complain because I respect freedom of speech and democracy,” the Pasir Mas MP said.

Ibrahim then turned the tables and called Dr Chua “a nuisance” for appearing in the widely seen sex video which forced the latter to resign from all party and government posts in January 2008.

In an interview published by Malaysiakini today, Dr Chua called independent lawmaker Ibrahim “a nuisance” who thrived on unwarranted attention from online news portals and other “new media”.

“He is only an independent MP. He gets (so much) publicity. I’m sure he is enjoying it. Never in his lifetime has he enjoyed so much publicity,” he had said.

“Even when he was a deputy minister, he never enjoyed the kind of publicity he has today. So he would continue to sing like that.”

Dr Chua had been commenting on the Najib administration’s 1Malaysia concept, which he said would weather attacks from Malay rights proponents like Ibrahim and Utusan Malaysia.

He also claimed Umno was not reluctant to challenge Ibrahim’s views because it found them agreeable but just preferred not to give the pint-sized activist further prominence.

“The more you debate, the more you dignify him. The more you respond, the more you report, the more you dignify him,” Dr Chua said.
