Perkasa will cancel if illegal rally on July 9 is called off

Perkasa will cancel its planned rally if the Opposition-linked Bersih rally on July 9 is called off, its president Datuk Ibrahim Ali said Monday.

He said Perkasa's rally was to show that not all Malaysians supported the Bersih rally.

“A majority of the population does not share the same views as Bersih and we too want to voice our displeasure over the proposed event.

“I urge the police to take whatever action necessary under the law to stop Bersih from organising the rally,'' he told reporters after having his statement recorded by Dang Wangi police on Monday where he arrived at noon.

Ibrahim Ali was quizzed by police over his alleged remarks that the Chinese community may have to stock up food supply if the Bersih rally on July 9 went on as planned.

It is learnt that police quizzed him for two hours on Monday and have classified the case under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code (Statements conducing to public mischief) for the speech he allegedly made on June 19 in Kampung Baru here.

Besides Perkasa, the other party that is against the Bersih rally is Umno Youth which is also planning to protest against Bersih on the same day.

Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Rizalman Datuk Mokhtar said Monday that Umno Youth had applied for a permit to hold its rally on July 9.

Other component parties were also interested in joining the rally, he said, adding that MIC and PPP had confirmed they were taking part.
