PAS Youth cries foul over Umno bullies

Johor PAS Youth claims that Umno had stopped a daughter of a Bukit Kepong victim from meeting with Mohamad Sabu.

PETALING JAYA: Johor PAS Youth today claimed that Umno members prevented PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu from visiting one of the relatives of those involved in the 1950 Bukit Kepong incident.

Jamilah Abu Bakar, who was four when her father passed away in the 1950 incident, was featured today in several news reports, including Metro, Sinar Harian and yesterday’s TV3′s prime time news, Buletin Utama, as saying that she had declined to meet Mohamad Sabu, or Mat Sabu, when he visted her.

She reportedly said that she refused to meet with Mat Sabu as his recent controversial speech on the Bukit Kepong incident belittled the sacrifices of those who were killed in the incident.

Mat Sabu, in his speech on Aug 21, had allegedly defended the communist fighters who attacked the Bukit Kepong police station on Feb 23, 1950, as heroes, and not the 17 policemen who died in the attack.

Mat Sabu has, however, denied that he had defended the communists.

PAS Johor Youth chief Suhaizan Kayat in a statement today claimed that his team and Mat Sabu were prevented from holding the meeting by Umno members and not as what was reported in the media.

He said that Jamilah had agreed to meet with Mat Sabu when she was approached on Sept 4 by PAS Pulai committee member, Zaba Ibrahim.

However, upon arriving at the street where her home was located yesterday, they were confronted by 10 to 20 people .

“One of them gave us a sign to leave the street. Zaba had confirmed that those people were local Umno leaders who were not happy with Mat Sabu’s presence at Jamilah’s home. They prevented us from visiting Jamilah,” he said.

To prevent the situation from worsening and also due to Mat Sabu’s tight schedule, the group decided to leave.

The methods employed by Umno were akin to those employed by the British colonialist, said Suhaizan.

He also asked Johor Menteri Besar Abdul Ghani Othman to advise Umno member in the area to be more rational in dealing with this issue.

Suhaizan said that there were three reasons for the visit: to convey Hari Raya wishes, to offer legal council to Jamilah in order to demand damages from the British government and to get more information on the Bukit Kepong incident.

  1. Lets face it, Mat Sabu slam his face on a pile of shit big time. And no additional bullshit from PAS-DAP-PKR could ever spin that around. PAS media and supporters who chose to defend Mat Sabu also risk losing credibility as well.
