Pulau Jerejak fiasco: Show proof, Penang BN tells state govt

If the DAP-led state government can furnish evidence, it can sue the previous administration for losses incurred over the redevelopment project, says Penang BN.

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) today asked the DAP-led state government to offer evidence to support its claim that the Pulau Jerejak redevelopment by the previous BN state government had incurred losses.

Penang BN executive committee chairman Dr Teng Hock Nan said if the present state government could come up with the evidence, then it could take legal action against any party, including the previous state government.

Speaking to reporters after a BN programme at the Chowrasta Market, here, he said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had threatened legal action against former chief minister Koh Tsu Koon.

Teng was commenting on Lim’s claim that the project undertaken by the previous administration had incurred a deficit of RM30 million, and the present government was demanding that the money be returned.

He said the state government should give priority to the welfare of the people and resolve their problems, such as repairing the roof of the Chowrasta Market.

Meanwhile, state BN information chief Dr Loga Bala Mohan, who was also at the event, said the state government could report to the police or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) if indeed the island’s redevelopment had incurred losses or involved irregularities.

At the event, about 3,000 multipurpose shopping bags were distributed to traders and visitors at the market.
