PETALING JAYA, Feb 24 — Selangor has not raised assessment rates since 2008 when Pakatan Rakyat (PR) took power, said the DAP’s Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San.
“Ever since PR took over the administration of Selangor in 2008, the state government has not raised a single sen in assessment rate in all the 12 local councils in Selangor.
“Which is why the allegation made by Selayang BN co-ordinator Jessie Ooi that Selangor has raised the assessment rate is clearly misleading and incorrect,” Lau said in a statement.
Ooi, who is also Selangor MCA Beliawanis chief, has been the target of the opposition as well as netizens since her 30-second tirade at the debate between Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek last Saturday.
Lau pointed out that Ooi said she was referring to Selangor and not Penang which had increased its assessment rate.
“Actually I was referring to Selangor PR government’s unfulfilled election promise that if they were elected they would lower the Selangor’s assessment rate during the election in year 2008. This is an issue about the rakyat being dissatisfied with the Selangor PR government. News report saying that I was referring to the Penang assessment rate is therefore incorrect,” according to her statement.
Lau, who is also Selangor DAP organising secretary, said “just because she has expressed it wrongly, she should not have blamed everything on the media; instead, she should apologise to the public immediately instead.”
“I strongly advise Jessie Ooi to issue a public apology for her misleading and incorrect remark,” Lau said.
