Umno leader: Resolve scandal or lose people's trust

As pressure mounts on the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) following further stunning expose by the opposition, vocal Umno division leader Syed Ali Alhabshee wants the controversy to be resolved before the 13th general election is called.

NONESyed Ali, who is Cheras Umno division chief, said he does not want the scandal, which is plaguing Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil’s family, to have any adverse impact and erode the trust of the rakyat on BN and the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Razak.

“We do not want Najib’s stellar leadership to be marred by the NFC issue as the people want to see his sternness and transparency in handling the issue. The people are concerned that there are many issues plaguing Umno leaders which are being exploited by the opposition to garner voters’ support.

“Do not blame the people (voters) if they shift their support following the failure of the government in handling important public issues like the NFC,” he said.

Syed Ali was commenting in his Cheras Umno blog following thelatest expose made by the PKR yesterday on allegations that Shahrizat’s family members have bought two posh properties in Singapore.

Two condos costing RM34.6 mil

Yesterday, PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli revealed that it was possible Shahrizat’s family had used the RM250 million government soft loan as leverage to purchase two condo units at Marina Bay suites costing RM34.6 million.

NONEBoth properties are owned by Shahrizat’s husband, Mohd Salleh Ismail, and their son, Wan Shahinur Izran Salleh.

Syed Ali said if the latest allegation is not refuted by Shahrizat, it would create a perception that this is “the truth”.

“If what is alleged by the opposition is slander, then they (Shahrizat’s family) should deny it openly and provide proof or hard facts which the people can be convinced of,” said Syed Ali.

He lamented that Umno division leaders were finding it hard to explain the issue to the people.
