KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak today promised more aid for the Selangor poor if they helped Barisan Nasional (BN) regain the country’s wealthiest state.
The BN chairman and Prime Minister told them to vote for BN as the “future of YBK (Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan) depended on BN taking over” the state.
“From YBK’s history, you don’t need to be a nuclear scientist to conclude that the foundation’s transformation is closely-linked with the political transformation in Selangor,” Najib (picture) said when launching the poverty eradication foundation’s five-year transformation programme.
He explained that if Pakatan remains in power, YBK would not be able to expand in Selangor as 473 acres of its land had been seized.
“That is why Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim had wanted to take over as the foundation’s chairperson,” said the Umno president.
“After he (Khalid) failed to achieve his ambition, he seized the lands and placed what was left under a caveat,” he added, reiterating that “future projects depend on BN taking over Selangor”.
In 2010, the foundation had clashed with the state government after its application to develop a 526-acre land for a new Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campus in Serendah was rejected.
The planned university has since been relocated to Malacca.
Najib also announced that more than 40,000 households have been decategorised from the hardcore poor category under the YBK.
