Malay Reserve Lands sold off under BN, claims Azmin

The Selangor government under previous BN administration had betrayed the Malays by selling off Malay Reserve Lands to private companies at no cost, alleged Azmin Ali (PKR-Bukit Antarabangsa) at the Selangor state assembly today.

NONEContinuing his debate on the Royal Address this afternoon, Azmin (right) claimed that the BN state administration before 2008 had acquired 76 acres of Malay Reserve Land at Sungai Sering, Cheras, and gave it to Triumph City Development Sdn Bhd.

“They did not ask the company for compensation. Worse, the company did not even pay land premiums,” he claimed.

When Pakatan Rakyat took over the state government leadership in 2008, he said, Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim rectified the problem by taking back the land and re-gazetting it as Malay Reserve Land.
Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (PKR-Seri Setia) then jumped into the debate, accusing the Puchong Umno division of trying to trade off a plot of Malay Reserve Land to a non-Malay property company in 2010, only to be halted by Khalid.

Suhaimi Shafie (PKR-Sri Muda) continued the bashing session claiming that the Umno division in his area was given four acres of land from the state when they had applied only for three.

“The land was confiscated by the state in 2007 from a developer. The Shah Alam City Council at that time had applied for four acres of it for development while the Sri Muda Umno division wanted three.

“But when it was given out, the Umno division with strong political backing got the four acres while the city council was given three acres,” he claimed.
Grabbing the opportunity, Azmin then drove the nail in, charging that Umno and BN are not fit to defend Malay Rights.

“They say they champion  Malay rights in the so-called IMR notion. Yes, I meant Institute for Medical Research,” he said, mimicking the warcry  of Hasan Ali’s  recently-founded NGO, Jati.

“But it is proven that Pakatan is the one which  does the work to safeguard the Malays,” he added.

Turning to another topic, Azmin, who is also  PKR deputy president, called on the Selangor government to establish a Women Development Corporation (WDC) to empower that community.
He said it will be an initiative to encourage women to take part in every aspect of development.
He also urged the Selangor government to revise the affordable housing scheme’s ceiling price, allowing flexibility for a developer to build fewer parking lots so that more of them could take part in such projects.

“Currently the (state-owned) Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) is the major developer for affordable housing.

“Due to high construction costs, PKNS will need to fork out a total subsidy of RM1.1billion if they are building 10,000 houses as targeted by the government.

"I want to know how is the Selangor government going to assist them? Or can we rope in more developers to share the responsibilities?" Azmin asked.
