PKR has urged the police to conduct an independent and impartial investigation of the alleged fisticuffs between Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz's son, his bodyguard and a security guards' supervisor earlier this week.
Party vice-president N Surendran (left), party youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and non-governmental organisation Jingga 13 were united in their call on the police not to bow the minister's pressure.Surendran said police must act professionally and carry out a fair probe immediately even though it involves a senior minister's son.
"Public confidence in the police is at an all time low and the police must prove that they can investigate impartially.
"Nazri must also explain how his son can afford a Porsche and bodyguards. It is also time for all ministers to declare their assets," he added.
Shamsul Iskandar said in his statement that the incident had been verified by Brickfields OCPD Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid, who had classified the case under section 160 of the Penal Code for affray.
The PKR Youth chief demands a full independent and just investigation into the allegations as it involves the son of a minister entrusted with the law portfolio.
Another case's shadow rises
"PKR Youth is also made to understand Mohamad Nedim Nazri Aziz (right) has also been said to be involved in an incident resulting in the death of Darren Kang at the Uncle Don's restaurant in Sri Hartamas sometime in 2004."We call on the police to be stern and do its investigations professionally without being influenced by anyone from the outside or to close the case as was done in the 2004 Kang's case which is also said to involve Nazri's son," he said.
In the Darren Kang, a student who was studying law in the United Kingdom case, Nazri conceded his son was in the vicinity but claimed he was not involved.
Meanwhile, Jingga 13 in their statement also called for immediate investigation into the Tuesday incident.
"Jingga 13 sees the incident as eroding society's respect for other people's human rights. This is made much more worse as it involves Mohd Nedim, the son of the de facto law minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
"They believe the police impartiality in investigating the matter is possible as there is a CCTV recording of the incident.
"The CCTV recording should be handled with full integrity in order to give further evidence and ensure there is no cover-up or immunity for the family of the de facto law minister, " it said.
The NGO also called on the police to probe allegations of some parties being pressured to close the case as security firms must acquire approval for the federal government to renew their operating licence.
"They should investigate whether there are hidden hands which may disrupt investigations and continue to protect the innocent," Jingga 13 said.
Yesterday Malaysiakini in its exclusive report on the Tuesday incident said the security guard had alleged Mohamad Nedim and his bodyguard assaulted him.
‘Clear case of conflict’
Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo (right) told Malaysiakini that given Nazri's son alleged involvement in this case, the minister should not be issuing any statements in matters pertaining to law, especially if it involves the attorney-general or its chambers."It could be interpret as a clear case of conflict," the DAP legal national bureau chairperson said.
Meanwhile, in a related development it is understood police have asked for the CCTV recordings from the condominium management as part of their probe into the matter.
The police have classified the case as an ‘alleged affray’ under section 160 of the Penal Code, which an offender is liable to imprisonment of up to one month or a fine of RM2,000, or both.
"But shouldn't the police also investigate possible criminal trespassing as the visitors were trying to gain access into a gated property, and also for assault?” asked the source on condition of anonymity, saying that these charges carry heavier penalties.
“In addition, if there are elements of a false (police) report being lodged, the matter should also be investigated in that direction. The CCTV may actually show what happened," he added.
When will this ever end? There was a time in the 1970s when Raja Nong Chik and Nasrun who were in politics had children whom kicked pregnant wives, spat at old people and beat up everyone they saw in Taman Jaya, Petaling Jaya. Then there are other examples of the Sultan of Johor murdering his people and then his son raping women, we have other politics rampantly involved in crime. Now we have this juvenile delinquent whose father is the defacto Minister of Law with a Porsche and body guard. Now we know where the NEP and affirmative action monies landed. They landed in the hands of the elite and royalty. So much for the poor Malay Bumiputra. The sons of the soil are now toiling with the sons of the night soil. The poor in Malaysia remain poor. That is why 40-years after the NEP’s implementation, it is a failure. It will never be a success. The no B…s Attorney General will not prosecute-Malaysia is ripe for civil disobedience by the people and a change of government. These THUGS must be put away. I hope the Malays will OPEN their eyes and see what is going on.
