SABAH COMMITTED TO STRENGTHEN EDUCATION

KOTA KINABALU : The state government will continue to strengthen education to the highest level to generate quality human resource to inherit the future leadership of the nation, through Kolej Yayasan Sabah (KYS).

Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman said this commitment was in line with the aim of KYS which is set to be upgraded into a university college in less than two years time.
"We hope KYS will be upgraded, which is at the Ministry of Higher Education stage, and for a new college building to house more students in line with the college's mission to offer local students higher education opportunities," he said.

Musa, who is Yayasan Sabah, Board of Trustees chairman, was speaking to reporters after presenting the 23rd Sabah Scholarship Awards to 25 outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia students at Menara Tun Mustapha here yesterday.

He also advised the state's youngsters to study hard towards academic success and change the quality of their families' lives, in line with Yayasan Sabah's objective.

Responding to the Sabah Scholarship Association's request to relax the conditions for scholarships, he said Yayasan Sabah's Education Development Department would study the matter even though the present criteria were reasonable and have been in existence for a long time.

A total of 369 students have received the Sabah Scholarship Awards since its establishment in 1990. (Bernama)
