Nazri: Anwar is the 'King of frogs'
Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to entice Sabah BN leaders will not affect BN, said Umno supreme council member Nazri Abdul Aziz.
He said such defectors know they will not be fielded in the general election and are looking for greener pastures.
“If Anwar want to take those who will not be fielded by (BN), go ahead. Anwar is also a frog because he left Abim (a Muslim youth movement) for Umno and then to PKR.
“It is no surprise that he takes in his own kind. The frog will accept another frog,” said Nazri in Padang Rengas yesterday, according to Mingguan Malaysia.
Anwar’s political journey had led Nazri to dub him the 'Bapa segala katak (King of frogs)'.
Two weekends ago, Anwar was in Sabah to attend functions where Tuaran MP Wilfred Bumburing and Beaufort MP Lajim Ukin announced their decision to leave BN and join forces with Pakatan Rakyat.
Another key United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) leader Maijol Mahap is expected to announcehis decision to leave BN today.
‘Janji Bersih is okay’
In another development, Nazri said the federal government will not stop the planned ‘Janji Bersih’ gathering on Merdeka Day eve as long as it is held peacefully.
He said that the gathering can be allowed under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
“If they want to gather, there are no problems because they are allowed to under the Act. But let the event be civilised,” he said.
About a third of Bersih 2.0's coalition members are urging the public to show up in yellow at Dataran Merdeka on Merdeka Day eve at 10pm in order to highlight the coalition’s eight demands for electoral reforms.
The ‘Janji Bersih’ theme by the groups is a play on the federal government’s ‘Janji Ditepati’ theme for Merdeka Day, as a reminder that promises to ensure free and fair elections have yet to be fulfilled.
