The PKR vice president alleges that the lies against her were spread by Umno supporters and tells them to stop the attacks.
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar said the sex video purportedly implicating her was a malicious slander by pro-Umno individuals.
“I was shocked when I heard about it. Enough of all these slanders,” she said.
Last week, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Abdullah alleged that he was approached by individuals who claimed they were in possession of sex videos implicating senior party leaders.
The leaders implicated in the video by the anonymous individuals were PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim, Nurul and Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Nurul, who is also a Lembah Pantai MP, said that the individuals were attempting to tarnish her family’s image using the video.
“They are also attempting to tarnish the image of PKR leadership. I say 15 years of slander is enough. Not only does it affect the party but also the society,” she said.
On another matter, Nurul said that the party has yet to decide on which state seat PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail may contest in the 13th general election.
“It’s a possibility she may contest, but nothing has been decided. We need to look at areas and weigh its pros and cons,” she said.
Nurul added: “Whatever decision we make, we will consult all party stakeholders including the grassroots.”
Last year, Wan Azizah said that she may contest for a state seat in Selangor.
She is barred from contesting at the parliamentary level for five years, after she vacated her Permatang Pauh seat in 2008 to allow Anwar to contest there.
