Parti Keadilan Rakyat (KEADILAN) views with increasing concern the revelations surrounding the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu and P Balasubramaniam’s second statutory declaration, which have emerged over the last few months.
Former IGP Musa Hassan - the man who was responsible for the investigation of this murder case - stated yesterday that there is sufficient evidence to reopen the investigation into private investigator P Balasubramaniam’s second statutory declaration (SD2). The Malaysian Bar Council has also issued a statement on 30 March 2013, establishing that there is sufficient new evidence for the Attorney-General to reopen investigations into the 2006 murder of Altantuya.
KEADILAN supports the calls to reopen the investigation into the murder of Altantuya, and the SD2 of P Balasubramaniam (Bala) on the grounds of this new evidence. The revelations by Deepak Jaikishan, the late Bala, and Americk Singh Sindhu have raised sufficient concern to warrant further investigations by the authorities.
All trails lead to Najib
The following revelations may indeed point to the possible motive for the events that led to Altantuya’s death, which has not yet been satisfactorily dealt with.
First, Deepak revealed on 12 December 2012 that several persons had coerced Bala to retract his first statutory declaration (SD1) signed on 1 July 2008 and to sign SD2 on 4 July 2008 which was prepared without his instructions or presence, in a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
Second, Bala’s lawyer, Americk, has confirmed on 21 December 2012 that Bala did not personally write SD2 and revealed further that the contents of SD1, which implicate Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, were true as far as Bala was concerned.
Finally, Americk has also confirmed that senior lawyer Cecil Abraham was responsible for drafting SD2, and more shockingly, that SD2 was drafted on instruction from Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak.
If these assertions by Bala, Deepak and Americk are true, then the preparation of SD2 amounts to an act of criminality under the Penal Code including perjury, giving false information regarding an offence and obstruction of justice. Those involved in the scheme to coerce Bala to retract SD1 have engaged in a blatant abuse of power and corrupt practices punishable under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.
AG and cops must act immediately
This is a high profile case of national and international importance which involves the brutal murder of Altantuya, two police officers who have been sentenced to death, the use of billions of ringgit of tax payers money for the purchase of defense submarines and millions of ringgit paid in commission, major personalities including the current caretaker Prime Minister /former Defense Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak.
In light of these alarming revelations that reveal the deeply rotten state of power to the very highest levels and its interference in the Malaysian system of justice, KEADILAN calls for an immediate reopening of the investigation into both Altantuya’s murder and Bala’s second statutory declaration by the Attorney-General and the Royal Malaysian Police.
TIAN CHUA
Vice President KEADILAN
