Another MCA division upset over candidacy

Serdang MCA division is up in arms over alleged plans by the party headquarters to field a candidate whom they deemed to be a traitor, for the Serdang Parliamentary seat.

A protest was held at the Serdang MCA division headquarters this morning, where about 50 party members warned that they would boycott the campaign should the "traitor" be nominated.

NONEAccording to division chief Liew Yuen Keong (left), who refused to name the traitor despite repeated requests, said that the identity if the traitor was an open secret in Serdang.

Liew said that the "traitor" had supplied MCA's secrets to and donated to archrival DAP during the 2008 general election campaign. He alleged that the "traitor" was once also spotted donning a DAP t-shirt.

“The traitor’s behaviour has humiliated MCA grassroots and the BN machinery,” he added.

In view of this, Liew said the Serdang MCA division cannot accept this person as their candidate.
'Back door tactic'

Previously, Chinese dailies speculated that Liew's camp is in conflict with party members loyal to former Serdang MCA division chief Yap Pian Hon.

When contacted, Yap declined comment since he was not named in Liew's protest today.

Liew told a press conference that it would appear that the MCA and BN national leadership are not acting on choice of candidates nominated by the respective divisions.

“Regrettably, somebody tried to be candidate by using back door tactic. This is an insult. Why ask us to submit a candidates list in 2011, only to ignore it now?

"We hope the party leaders will shed light on this," said Liew, adding that his division hoped to meet MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek to discuss the matter.

Liew also dismissed suggestions that boycotting the campaign would mean handing the seat to the opposition.

“It doesn’t mean we don’t support (BN). We just won't participate in the campaign," he said.
