'Anwar's will be another Pak Lah government'

MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek said today that should Pakatan Rakyat capture federal power and Anwar Ibrahim becomes prime minister, his government will be like that of former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who was only engrossed in Islamic affairs.

NONE"I have had the opportunity to serve under Pak Lah (Abdullah Ahmad) and (caretaker Prime Minister) Najib Abdul Razak," said Chua who had served as Health Minister during Abdullah Ahmad's tenure in office.
"I can see the difference. Their leadership was completely different, so were the results, this is very clear.

"When Pak Lah led the country, every day he would talk about Islam Hadhari (progressive Islam) but never about the economy, because Pak Lah's (Islamic studies) background is the same as Anwar (above), they don't know about the economy, they only talk about doa (prayers)," he said during a luncheon with 150 people in Jementah, Segamat this afternoon.
In contrast, Chua said Najib puts a lot of focus on the economy.

"Under Najib, things are now completely different, everyday the emphasis is on economic development and we believe this is the right track," he told the mainly Chinese audience.

NONEAs such, he said the issue of who becomes prime minister was extremely crucial.

Furthermore, he warned if PAS is the one that gets the prime ministership, Genting casino would most likely be closed down, as will cinemas.

Chua (left, in photo) also pointed to PAS' syura council's insistence on the hudud law, stating that this was very real as they were the highest authority in PAS.

"They syura council's power exceeds even of their elected president, those that sit in it do not need to go through the party elections.

"They say they are determined to create an Islamic state and implement hudud law, they will not back down because it is their religious obligation," he said.
