Berjasa wants to regain glory of Islam

Berjasa resurfaces after 14 years of silence.
KUALA LUMPUR: After 14 years of silence Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) has resurfaced to contest in the 13th general election on May 5.
In its mission to defend Islam, the party is battling for nine parliament and five state seats nationwide.
The parliament seats are in Kedah (Alor Setar and Padang Serai), Pahang (Cameron Highlands), Federal Territory (Batu), Negeri Sembilan (Seremban), Perak (Tapah) and Selangor (Selayang, Subang and Kapar).
And the state seats are in Kedah (Derga and Kulim), Selangor (Kajang) and Perak (Kuala Sepetang and Hutan Melintang).
Berjasa general elections operations room director, who is also Batu parliament candidate, Brig-Gen (R) Hashim Abdul Karim said the party decided to contest in this general election to regain the glory of Islam.
“We don’t want Islam to be trifled with by certain parties and that’s why we’re contesting,” he said after handing in his nomination papers at Dewan Sri Murni, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Raja Abdullah at Jalan Kepong here today.
The other candidates vying for the Batu seat are Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai (Barisan Nasional), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Chua Tian Chang; and independents Nazariah Abbas and Atan Jasin.
Berjasa is a PAS splinter party which was formed in 1977. It last contested in the 1999 general election.
