Ghani: If Kit wins, Hadi might be PM

Vote Lim Kit Siang and you might get PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang as your next prime minister, warned Gelang Patah candidate and incumbent Johor menteri besar Abdul Ghani Othman to Chinese voters in the constituency.

Addressing voters at a function in Taman Melawati in Skudai today, Ghani said he worried about the implications.

“If it is true what they said today that DAP has agreed that Hadi Awang would be our future prime minister, ladies and gentlemen, Johor and I will be worried. What will he be going to do to us... correct or not?”

Asked for the source of the information he shared at the function, Ghani replied: “I don't know. I read it in the newspapers”.

DAP has repeatedly stressed that it would support PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim to be the prime minister should Pakatan capture Putrajaya.
Moving away from formalities
However BN, especially MCA, has been warning the Chinese that PAS, which has the strongest machinery and largest membership among three parties, would dominate Pakatan and grab the premiership when Pakatan comes to power.

Umno, on the other hand, is trying to convince Malay voters that DAP would be the dominant power in the coalition.

This afternoon, BN supporters waited for an hour to catch Ghani at what was meant to be a meet-and-greet session with the Chinese voters in Skudai.

However most of the people who turned up were Malays, with some Chinese who appear to be part of MCA campaign machinery.

"I wanted to meet the people, aside from just at formal functions," said Ghani.
Ghani needs time

He then spoke extensively of his experience as menteri besar, a position he has held for four terms, and warned the crowd not to gamble away a stable future by choosing the inexperienced and divisive Pakatan Rakyat.

He then trained his sights on Kit Siang, claiming that the Chinese community must not trust him due to his alliance with PAS and Anwar.
"The Chinese community should look at the context of which government can be given the trust. When we see Kit Siang conspiring with PAS and Anwar Ibrahim, I think they would have to take that into account."

Gelang Patah MCA division chief Jason Teoh, who was initially supposed to be fielded in Gelang Patah, was also spotted at the function.

Asked about Ghani's popularity with the Chinese community, Teoh could only provide a curt answer.

"Uh... I think we need time... that question is a bit difficult to answer, pardon me."

Teoh led the 20-odd people in attendance to support Ghani, because if he becomes the Gelang Patah MP, he will have a ministerial post, which Ghani later said he was unaware of.
