Guan Eng: BN can only harp on old songs

PENANG The DAP has rubbished the efforts of its opponents to reignite the debate on the aims of PAS' hudud law, calling this yet another attempt to drive a wedge between the two opposition allies.

However, DAP is not buying it this time, with its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng describing the issue raised by BN again of late as similar to "an old song".

"They are playing it over and over again. We have heard it since we were children and I am sure your grandchildren will hear it again," Lim said after launching Pulau Tikus candidate Yap Soo Huey's service centre in Jalan Jones.

"If they are P Ramlee's songs, we would love to hear them, but the songs BN are singing are claptrap," Lim said, pointing out that the hudud law issue had been explained and clarified  countless times.

Lim admitted that DAP disagreed with PAS on the issue of the Islamic jurisprudence.
However, the caretaker chief minister of Penang added, the parties could not see eye-to-eye only on five percent of the common issues.

"Most of the time, about 95 percent, we agree, especially on the issues of good governance, justice and welfare of the people, including fighting corruption," he said.

"The five percent we cannot agree on, we put aside and work it out later. Just as PAS has the right to insist on hudud law, we have the right to insist on a secular state. This is democracy," he added.
'Open your eyes, see the BN lies'

Lim said DAP can work with PAS despite these differences because the leaders of both parties are not corrupt and respect other people's religions.
NONELim then turned the tables on state BN chief Teng Chang Yeow, asking him to clarify how Gerakan could work with Umno for endorsing "racist" leaders such Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali and his vice-chief Zulkifli Noordin (above, right).

"It is time for the people to open their eyes and see all the lies of BN," he added.

Lim also condemned the violent incidents in Nibong Tebal and Selangor involving "bombs" to scare BN supporters.

He dismissed allegations that Pakatan Rakyat was behind these incidents, challenging those who said so to back their claims with evidence.

Lim also castigated the person who punched a photographer on his right ear at a DAP ceramah in Bukit Gelugor last night.

The alleged attacker was spotted wearing the blue 1Malaysia T-shirt, and was part of some 50 motorcyclists, carrying BN flags, who disrupted the ceramah about 9.30pm.

Lim urged the police to investigate the matter immediately and bring the culprits to book.

"We in Pakatan have been victims of violence, so we appreciate if immediate action is taken. Violence is something we cannot accept."
