Hishammuddin: Do not politicise Customs Deputy DG’s murder

Hishammuddin said it was irresponsible of parties to politicise the murder case. -File picKLUANG, April 26 — Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has warned all parties not to politicise the murder of Customs Deputy Director-General (customs/internal tax) Datuk Shaharuddin Ibrahim in Putrajaya today.
He said there were quarters trying to take advantage of the incident to frighten away residents in Putrajaya.
In giving his assurance on the level of security in the federal government administrative centre, he said it was irresponsible of parties to politicise the murder case.
Speaking to reporters here, Hishammuddin said the police were investigating the main motive of the murder.
“The core of police investigation is on the motive of the murder,” he said.
Shaharuddin was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle while he was on the way to the office in a four-wheel drive vehicle at a traffic light junction, from Lebuh Sentosa to Lebuh Wawasan in the 8.15am incident.
Earlier, Hishammuddin, who is the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Semberong parliamentary seat, attended a goodwill session with residents of Kampung Melayu Batu 4, Paloh, together with BN candidate for Paloh state seat Teo Yap Kun here.
The home minister said the BN government had focused much on efforts to fight crime in the country, adding that if given the mandate, he would put in even more effort to deal with crime.
He also questioned opposition-controlled state governments on what they had done to handle crime in their states. – Bernama
