Irritated Soi Lek hits out at reporters
JOHOR It was obviously a day to forget for MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek who spoke to lukewarm response at a dinner last night, and then took out his irritation on reporters who questioned him about it.
Changing the government is not like changing clothes, he had earlier reminded some 6,000 people at the mega-dinner in Johor Jaya..
"Even when we change maids, we need to think wisely in order to get a good housekeeper. Therefore, do not think that changing a government is a simple thing," he intoned.
But with his audience apparently paying more attention to their food instead of the speech, Chua was compelled to ask for applause.
At one point, when he praised the BN-led federal government for having done a good job under Najib Abdul Razak, there was no response from the floor.
"Eh, why so quiet?" he asked, after which a few cheers went up from the crowd.
Asked about the poor response at a press conference afterwards, Chua appeared annoyed.
“Ya-lah, you all can write lah, you can say that everybody shouted at me, also can [sic]. When Chinese are eating, you think people listen to you what you are talking most of the time?
“We don't create all the hoo-ha. When people are eating, you have to talk, people would just listen to you. It doesn't mean that they have to jump up and down to show you (support).
“Have you heard of the silent majority? A lot of people are silent in various issues, but it does not mean they support these.”
Asked if he was satisfied with the attendance at the dinner, he said: “I don't know. Let you decide lah. Whatever I say, you will also contradict me.
“I'm not going to respond because I know what you all going to do. Every day you goreng the same issue, it does not have any news value.”
