Khalid: Luas has additional raw water supply

MORIB, April 28 — Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said yesterday raw water supply in Selangor could be increased by two billion cubic metres daily with the construction of a water retention pond in Sungai Selangor.
The study on increasing the raw water supply by using the retention pond method to store river water which would rise whenever it rained was carried out by the Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS), he said after officiating the World Water Day Celebration 2013 at the state level here.
He said the volume of river water rose whenever it rained and the water usually flowed directly to the sea and as such retention ponds would be built to store the surplus water.
Abdul Khalid (picture) said with the increase in the supply of raw water by 20 per cent above the current usage of water amounting to 9.2 billion cubic metres per day, it could cater for the Selangor water requirement for between five and six more years.
Press reports previously said that the water problem in Selangor concerned the low level of treated water reserves, which was one per cent compared to the actual reserves of 20 per cent. — Bernama
