No more love in the air for MCA billboards

MCA billboards in Seputeh constituency were taken down following an embarrassing karaoke video, which went viral on Tuesday.
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional-MCA billboards in the Seputeh constituency have been taken down following the party’s “Love is in the Air” video, which went viral earlier this week.
It is not known if the billboards were removed by MCA or by disgruntled residents.
However, on the day the MCA Federal Territory’s 1Malaysia task force team’s “Love is in the Air” karaoke video went viral on social-networking sites, a billboard promoting Bukit Bintang candidate Frankie Gan Joon Zin’s karaoke compact disc was slashed and left in tatters.
Yesterday, all BN-MCA billboards in Seputeh were taken down and have not been replaced.
Calls to MCA FT bureau for comments have gone unanswered.
MCA’s billboards have been extremely unpopular with Seputeh residents since they were erected on nomination day last Saturday.
A billboard of Gan, with the message “BN have laid solid foundation to achieve high income nation and wealths of the nation will be shared all races”, has been the butt of jokes among residents for its poor English.
The residents have slammed MCA’s “tidak apa” (carefree) attitude by allowing such billboards to be put up, calling them an “utter disgrace”.
“BN had a head-start to prepare for election. Yet it couldn’t plan its party banners with correct English. Is BN not taking the rakyat for granted? So tidak apa !!!”, an angry Seputeh resident said
on his Facebook page.
“What an utter disgrace!” another user chimed in.
On Tuesday, MCA made waves when Gan and his task force team performed “Love is in the Air”.
The original track was sung by John Paul Young in 1978.
Other candidates featured in this video lasting 4 minutes 29 seconds are MCA Beliawanis national deputy chief Nicole Wong Siaw Ting who is contesting for the Seputeh parliamentary seat, Bandar Tun Razak candidate Tan Kok Eng and Cheras candidate Teoh Chee Hooi.
MCA’s candidate for Seputeh in the 2004 general election Chin Yen Foo was also singing in the group.
So far MCA’s “Love in the Air” had 128,812 views.
Facebook users took the singers to task, with some even saying that they should be singing in the toilet instead of on YouTube.
