Raja Nong Chik (picture) also told a crowd of some 60 Indians in Taman Bukit Angkasa in Pantai Dalam here today that his contender, PKR’s Lembah Pantai incumbent Nurul Izzah Anwar, only showed up during elections and called her an “MP Hantu” (Phantom MP).
“If the prime minister doesn’t appoint me as minister, imagine what will happen — there will be no painted flats, the pipes won’t be fixed, there won’t be any strata titles, there won’t even be a Pantai Permai road,” said Raja Nong Chik at the MIC operations centre in Taman Bukit Angkasa here today.
“If she remains as MP, there won’t be anything at all,” added the Lembah Pantai Barisan Nasional (BN) chief, drawing cheers and applause from the crowd crammed into a tent on a blazing hot afternoon.
Raja Nong Chik, who has worked on various housing projects to uplift the poorer sections of Lembah Pantai like Pantai Dalam, pointed out that 500 to 600 Bukit Angkasa residents have received strata titles.
“I feel regretful when the phantom MP said that she was the one who fought for Taman Bukit Angkasa. She has absolutely no shame in saying that,” said Raja Nong Chik.
He added that he had set up a 1Malaysia business fund to help Lembah Pantai residents.
Posters featuring the caretaker federal territories and urban wellbeing minister can be seen throughout Lembah Pantai, a constituency that comprises the urban poor of Pantai Dalam and the affluent Bangsar.
Some Pantai Dalam residents have fondly called Raja Nong Chik their “Lembah Pantai minister” as testament to his popularity among the predominantly-Malay working class here that mostly live in flats.
D. Mulirani, a 58-year-old cleaner who lives in a flat in Taman Bukit Angkasa, told The Malaysian Insider at Raja Nong Chik”s function today that he was very helpful.
“I like Nong Chik. He helps a lot. I get RM1,000. He fixes drains too,” she said, referring to the Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia (BR1M) RM500 cash aids that the government has handed out twice.
Lembah Pantai has 72,533 voters, of which 55 per cent are Malay, 23 per cent are Chinese and 20 per cent are Indian.
