THREATENING CALLS ON SAS SCANDAL?

THE DAP Sabah Advisor Hiew King Cheu in highlighting the SAS scandal is to try to bring the matter to a close once for all and let the people know why they lost their money.

This is a major issue that had been swept underneath the carpet for decades, which caused the people losing their life saving and incurred deep financial difficulty. Unfortunately, he received threatening phone calls concerning the matter, how sad!

The scandal affected 55,000 investors and their shares are only worth pittance today. They are very angry, and their sufferings had continued until today as many are still repaying their debts or being chased after by the banks.

If the various past Chief Ministers of Sabah are serious about putting the issue to rest, the state government should produce a “white paper”. What is wrong with the request, unless there is really something big to hide?

SAPP Yong Teck Lee has mentioned that if he captures the state government in this coming election, he will review the whole thing, but why he doesn’t want to reveal now? SAPP had also challenged the PBS Yee Moh Chai to produce evidence that Yong was involved, why Yee refused?

Definitely Yong knew the details, because he was the then chief minister and he was sitting on the share investment board. He should know and therefore he should explain what had happened.

Why is it so difficult in telling the truth and the facts behind it? It is a noble and honorable thing to do as a lawyer, ex-chief executive and ex-chief minister for the sake of the Sabahan. Remember, we are not pointing finger at any one.

Sabah had been hit by so many unsolved scandals under the Barisan Nasional (BN) government. There are so many cases of corruptions and abuses of power.

These have affected the people resulting to Sabah being one of the poorest states in Malaysia. If the BN government is to continue for another five years, the state will surly go bankrupt in no time. Do the people of Sabah want this to happen?

Pakatan Rakyat, Anwar Ibrahim said, “It is not about getting entire radical change to the existing system, what we require is good governance to strengthen institutions of democracy. So, the democratic transition is done through elections.”

PR would eliminate corruptions and abuses of power by strengthening and promoting the independence of institutions such as judiciary, the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) apart from making them answerable to Parliament.

The PR will not belittle or make uncalled for remarks on the MACC like what happen in the case of the Global Witness video issue recently in Sarawak. The people of Sabah just want a fair conclusion to the SAS fiasco, nothing more and nothing less.

They are waiting for that day to come so that the matter can finally be put to rest. There is no need for anyone to threaten a good intention, unless there is something to hide. (DAP Media)
