‘Umno spreading malicious allegations’

PKR's Wangsa Maju candidate Tan Kee Kwong says his Umno opponent is spreading all sorts of rumours and allegations about him.
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR’s candidate for Wangsa Maju Tan Kee Kwong is upset that the Umno candidate is spreading allegations against him.
Tan, who is also PKR’s disciplinary committee chief, said his opponent Shafei Abdullah of Umno is distributing leaflets with the DAP, PAS and PKR logos in Wangsa Maju.
Tan told a press conference here today that in the leaflets there were allegations that Pakatan Rakyat will no longer maintain Islam as the official religion of Malaysia, the end of monarchy and the end of Malay rights.
The former Gerakan leader who joined PKR in 2008 said that Umno is distributing the leaflets in Wangsa Maju.
Other allegations are that Pakatan would allow “Allah” to be used by all the people regardless of their faith. In addition, federal government agencies such as Mara, Felda, Felcra and Risda will be closed down along with the Royal Malay Regiment and the police force.
Tan will face off with Shafei who is Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s political secretary on polling day on May 5.
“My election director will be making a police report today. I hope the police will investigate professionally,” he said.
Tan also revealed that certain parties are spreading rumours about him being corrupted during his time as a Land and Cooperative Development Deputy Minister in the 1990s.
“There are allegations that Wangsa Maju PKR is able to host a lot of programmes because I was corrupted in the government,” Tan said.
He warned those doing so to “stop doing stupid things” or risk being sued in court.
“If you have evidence, lodge a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. We are willing to open all our books,” he said.
He also had a message for the voters in Wangsa Maju.
“This is cheap politics. If you vote for this rubbish, you will get a rubbish government,” he said.
