ALTANTUYA & SAIFUL STYLE? Swear on Quran to clear your name, pro-Najib NGO tells Dr M
KUALA LUMPUR - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should swear on the al-Quran to clear his name and dispel doubts over his wealth, Malay group Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) said today.
JMM secretary-general Hamdan Mohd Salleh said this would be the “best way” for Dr Mahathir to counter the allegations on his wealth, but did not set a deadline for the country's longest-serving prime minister to do so.
“Tun Mahathir Mohamad needs to swear that he and his family had never had any businesses, property or assets overseas as he claimed in social media previously,” he told reporters here today, adding that this declaration should also cover Dr Mahathir's children and siblings.
Hamdan also said Dr Mahathir needs to swear that he is not the actual “mastermind” of the Citizens for Accountable Governance Malaysia (CAGM) group that is offering up to RM1 million for information on his wealth.
Hamdan said the swearing can be done at any mosques and offered JMM's assistance to find a suitable mosque.
On May 30, the CAGM group headed by lawyer Md Zainal Abidin posted a RM1 million bounty for clues to Dr Mahathir’s alleged “hidden wealth and assets”.

CAGM said its own research has led it to believe that Dr Mahathir had managed to stay as prime minister for 22 years because of his alleged vast fortune, which the group claimed to be mostly hidden offshore through layers of companies, nominees and proxies.
CAGM said it will take pains to protect the identities of any whistleblowers who come forward “at all costs” and handle any defamation suit against whistleblowers in the course of feeding the group with information.
The group also said it will forward any information it received that can implicate its target straight to the authorities, such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), on behalf of the whistleblowers without involving them. - Malay Mail
