A police report was lodged after a netizen saw the remarks on Facebook.
KOTA KINABALU: Police have detained a civil servant for allegedly posting seditious remarks on Facebook in connection with the earthquake which hit Sabah last Friday.
The man had posted “kene gempa bumi bru nk kecoh … Standard la negeri penuh sociality … pub … night club trbanyak di malaysia” (Only after there’s an earthquake this state is taking action … the state allows a lifestyle that is too social, it has the most pubs and nightclubs in Malaysia. Now want to shake so much. God has shaken it up. Why afraid now?”).
He posted the message on Facebook on June 6.
Kota Kinabalu district police chief ACP M Chandra said the suspect, 22, was detained at about 9pm on Saturday at his house in Indah Permai, Sepanggar.
The man was arrested 12 hours after a police report was lodged against him.
Chandra said police had recorded a statement from the suspect and was investigating the case under Section 505 (c) of the Penal Code and the Multimedia Communications Act.
