The Impian Kelantan Coalition has clarified that DAP had only offered, not planned, to rebuild a mosque in Kampung Pasir Tumboh, Kelantan that was destroyed by floodwaters.
In a press release today, coalition secretary Dr Rosli Allani Abdul Kadir said it was a spontaneous reaction made by DAP leaders when the Iman for the mosque asked for help.
"In fact, DAP's Projek Impian coordinator Anthony Loke said that it would depend on whether the offer is accepted by the locals and whether there were any (religious) restrictions for the offer.
"This shows that DAP's Projek Impian leaders are sensitive in their quest to provide humanitarian aid," said Rosli.
Rosli added that the coalition welcomed the offer but they have secured finances from other sources to repair the mosque immediately.
DAP's offer had been met by scorn from Kelantan Umno leader Mustapa Mohamed who claimed that this was tantamount toinsulting Muslims.
However, Kota Bharu MP and PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan defended the idea.
Takiyuddin said there were many non-Muslims who contributed money for the building of mosques in Kelantan.
"Anyone can contribute," said Takiyuddin, who had served on Kelantan's cabinet before.
DAP's Projek Impian is the party's rural outreach scheme. Thus far, Projek Impian has branched into Sarawak, Sabah, Pahang and Kelantan.
