Muslim politicians are cowards, says converts group

'They fail to stop DAP leaders from making insensitive statements.'
Firdaus Wong, Teresa Kok
PETALING JAYA: A Muslim converts association has accused Muslim politicians of cowardice for their failure to stop DAP leaders from making statements that touch on the sensitivity of Muslims.
Firdaus Wong, who leads an organisation called Multiracial Reverted Muslims, said in a Facebook posting yesterday that DAP politicians appeared to be becoming “bolder by the day in showing their true stripes.”
He made the remark as a reaction to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s comments regarding the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) dress code.
Kok said yesterday the dress code, which prohibits shorts, sleeveless blouses and skirts that fall short of the knee, was “unacceptable”.
The dress code became an issue following a recent incident in which an JPJ client was given a sarong to wear over her skirt.
Wong took exception at Kok’s remark that “JPJ is not a mosque.”
He said there was no need to associate “decent dressing” only with the surroundings of a mosque because the demand for it was universal.
He suggested that Kok wear a short skirt to Parliament and say “Parliament is not a mosque” if she happened to be barred from entering the building.
